Adobe posts Lightroom 4.4 and ACR 7.4 release candidates

Adobe has announced ‘release candidate’ versions of Lightroom 4.4 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.4. As usual, the latest near-complete versions add support for recent cameras. What makes this release especially significant, however, is improved support for Fujifilm’s X-Trans sensor models, including the X-Pro1 and X-E1. The Lightroom update also corrects a series of bugs present in the current version of the software. As usual, release candidates are considered well tested but not final.

Fixed issues in Lightroom 4.4

The following issues have been fixed in Lightroom 4.4 release candidate:

The crop overlay tool resized incorrectly when used in conjunction with the “Constrain to Crop” checkbox in the Lens Correction panel
Background graphics were not correctly rendered within the Book Module
The supplied lens profile for the Sony RX-1 did not contain vignette information
Previews of photos in portrait orientation were blurry when viewed in the filmstrip in the Develop module. (Mac only)
Stack badges displayed the wrong count when creating new stack that included a preexisting stack.
The Filter scrollbar within the Library module was not rendering properly.

How about PNG support?!

I sure hope Adobe fixes the errors when you try to move multiple videos and the one with the preview showing will not move, and there is no dialog to ignore or resolve the issue.

Then remember what filters settings I set either globally or for each individual folder. Currently every time you change filters it resets to none. Absurd that they can’t at least make these features optional.

I also can’t stand the auto-eject card after importing images and video and that you can’t move data on import even though it is greyed out just to tease you.

Why would anyone buy a NEX-7 and a handful of lenses, plus a NEX-6 as second body, and an RX1 as a complement, when you could get a Hasselblad Lunar body made out of the finest Italian wood and leather, for the same money?

Ooh, ooh! LR now supports the Lunar! Yeah!

Yeah, I wondered about that. The crummy Hasselblad-Lunar website still just shows weird mockups and poorly done renderings. The raw file format is more real than the camera!

Curious if it has XF lens profiles.

They’re not reporting including them. However, lenses that include correction as part of their design usually have those applied behind-the-scenes.

Only the JPG files have profiles in camera on the XF lenses. Comparing a JPG and RAF file together (especially the 18mm lens) you can really see the difference.

Does lightroom already support the X-Pro cameras?

Yes, but this improves that support.

Sorry, I just recalled that the support was poor before. Very good to see they fixed some of the issues.

I thought the Hasselblad Lunar was just a silly prototype.

It is supposed to use the improved demosaicing algorithm that Fuji gave to Adobe. That hopefully means less color bleeding and improved detail with foliage.

PdF Ninja, in my own findings as well it is much improved. In some of my more critical images I’m not seeing the watercolour effect or colour smearing.
