Here’s a glimpse into a day in the life of a New York Times staff photographer. The behind-the-scenes video above follows 64-year-old photographer Ozier Muhammad as he covers the People’s Climate March in New York City last month for the Times with a Canon DSLR and a pair of Leica M rangefinders.

We see Muhammad weave walk through the event, hunting for shots that capture the essence of what is unfolding. It’s not always easy.
“What I usually do when I arrive to a scene and the picture isn’t readily available to me,†he says. “I keep my fingers crossed and try to keep my eyes wide open and hopefully that image will come together.â€

Started out doing photography at the age of 6 using an uncle's old 1940 kodak brownie box camera. At 15 years of age, I decided to buy my very own 1975 Praktica SLR camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D850. I do unpaid TFP and commercial paid work.
