Leica announces $1300 special edition ‘G-Star RAW’ D-Lux 6

Leica has announced a special edition of its D-Lux 6 high-end compact camera, in collaboration with clothing manufacturer G-Star RAW. The special D-Lux 6 (itself arguably a ‘special edition’ Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7) will be available from Leica Stores and Boutiques worldwide, and is expected to cost around $1300 – around $800 more than the standard D-Lux 6 and roughly $1000 more than the LX7.

What do you get for your money? Well, ‘a new dot structure on the leather body trim’ and a leather case with ‘exclusive carrying strap’. And a red dot, of course. 

This is the new ‘RAW’ edition Leica D-Lux 6, which comes with a different body finish and leather case with an ‘exclusive’ carrying strap. It will be available from Leica stores worldwide, at a rumored price of $1300.

According to G-Star, the collaboration with Leica is ‘natural’, since ‘both brands utilise design where form follows function, and stand for high-quality products of authenticity and durability’. The New York-based company has previously collaborated with bicycle manufacturer Cannondale, Hennessy cognac, Land Rover and it even got its name on the side of a 1927 canal boat in Amsterdam.

Wow. This guy makes Mark Newsom look like a real designer.

It might be a good camera, but that was the most stupid commercial I have ever seen. So long to say so little etc., etc.

Well, on the positive side, it looks like it will have a better grip.

G Star makes jeans and t shirts (in China) . With Leica they raise the price of the LX7 to $1300.

I bet a lot of really stupid really rich folks would sell their mothers to be able to get this and the must-have case. Many are called to photography but these few are not chosen, to paraphrase some ancient wisdom. I’m thinking of having a red-dot Leico logo tattooed on my forehead as a third eye instead.

They’ll sell 5 of them and then reduce price to $499.

Its too bad they didn’t make this announcement on April 1st, it would’ve been really awesome.

But seriously, when compared to the often sale price of the lX7 at $299, this is like the sound of one hand clapping.

Why would I pay $1300 for a camera I can buy for $349?
Wearing this $1300 camera is like having the word “Douche” written on your forhead.

why don’t i ask a chinese manufacture to make a silicon skin for me and then i stick to my panasonic? lol….

Having said that, the Panasonic version is OK.

That’s the best advertisement for…

My nipples explode in delight. But I prefer a larger minimum aperture number, so I guess I’ll have to wait for the special edition “mini-M”.

But let’s be honest with ourselves – the real question the industry is asking right now is “where is my Louis Vuitton Lunar”.

Wow, once again, Leica proves that they know what really matters in photography –who can doubt it?

The problem is that you just don’t understand the Leica-ness of the subpixel tone rendering and the crispness of the highlight-to-shadow transfer curve that your cheap Japanese camera manufacturers simply can’t copy.

I’m stupefied by Leica.
