Buyers’ Guide: Best DSLRs and ILCs for under $1000

Share:

Good-quality DSLRs and interchangeable lens cameras (ILCs) typically provide plenty of manual controls, comfortable ergonomics, and support a legacy of lenses for years to come. But Old or new, getting hold of a quality digital camera still requires you to put down a decent chunk of change. In this article we’re going to look at ten of the best DSLRs and ILCs available for under $1,000. We’ve included current cameras that we really like, and last-generation bargains, too.

No match for Pentax K5II..

I recently considered many camera’s … and bought the Fujifilm X-E1.

CameraLabTester

The DSLR range with the MOST number of lenses available for it will always win, no matter how much over $1000 the price will be.

So there.

I’d be happy if a system has all the lenses I am ever likely to need.

Having a heap of other lenses available which I will never use doesn’t worry me.

tarnumf

Yeah, sure, but MOST people buying DSLR never go beyond kit lens.

offtheback

Depends who’s driving.

DLSR = digital single-lens reflex
mirrorless = mirrorless

can you compare F1 with go karts?

of course not…

Your analogy makes as much sense as flamingos in the arctic. I have no idea what you are trying to say. DSLR is too broad of a group, everything from the go-kart to a formula one falls in the DSLR category, and the same could be said for mirrorless, but both are interchangeable lens.

Winston Loo

You sound totally ignorant and I forgive you. My gh3 and omd can run rings around any dslr up to pro level and doesn’t suffer from back or forward focussing issues. Immediate live view without lag.

Can you compare troll to a photographer?

PS: mirrorless is the future – as obvious as it is.

Rip Van Winkle says, shouldn’t $700 be able to buy a good DSLSR or Compact System camera.

I think the pentax k30/50 should be considered too. Its got pretty great features for its price. I’m sure its below $1000 too.

Just my thoughts.

InTheMist

It doesn’t matter what review DPR posts, the Pentax faction is never satisfied..

The K-30 is newer than many of the cameras on this list, and its replacement isn’t even available yet. Perhaps 2 months later it would have made the cut.

Besides, every other camera (except the 60D) deserves to be here, so which ones would you remove?
