I realize there are positives and negatives with so many of these cameras, however, I am a mid-grade photo amateur and I purchased this camera about 2 weeks ago. I also have a complete Lumix 4/3 system, but I have to say this is a great camera. I’m using it with the 30mm Sigma lens (which I had to update the lens firmware to work with the D5300), and the quality is outstanding. I got the gray D5300 and the Sigma Lens is the same gray color and they are an awesome combination! Also, I shoot products for web work and the D5300 works great tethered to my PC using the Nikon Camera Control Pro software. The tethering even works with video and saves the video clips right to the desktop. I’m not a full frame shooter yet so this is a great camera for me since I already had a few DX lenses. I’ve had 5 or 6 Nikon DX cameras over the years which I sold but this is the best yet, not to mention the large LCD screen. The D5300 has a nice quality feel to it and it does 1080 60p video. Nice.

Started out doing photography at the age of 6 using an uncle's old 1940 kodak brownie box camera. At 15 years of age, I decided to buy my very own 1975 Praktica SLR camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D850. I do unpaid TFP and commercial paid work.
