How to Create and Use Photoshop Actions to Speed up Your Workflow A Post By: Bruce Wunderlich What are Photoshop Actions? Photoshop Actions are very useful time savers. It can be done, read on. What kind of things can you do with Actions? Inside Photoshop, just about everything you do to enhance images can be done with an Action, ranging from: applying creative styles, resizing, converting to Black and White, sharpening,...

Three Uses for High ISO you Might Not Know

Three Uses for High ISO you Might Not Know A Post By: John Davenport You may already know that the ISO setting is used to control your camera’s sensitivity to light. When you use a high ISO setting essentially you are telling your camera to become more receptive to the available light. This is most often used when you are photographing in low light situations in order to maintain a proper exposure. However, there are at least three other reasons you might consider using a high ISO setting when you’re either in a good light situation or on a tripod. Freezing fast motion Use a high ISO setting to freeze fast motion – 1/8000th...

A little bit better: Nikon D810 First Impressions Review

4K is nice for geeky fun (even so 8K). Currently most of the developed world does not even have enough bandwidth to stream it properly. Meaning: yeah, you can shoot it, process it (oh god I can’t imagine After Effects and Premiere rendering stuff for 4/8K before I grow old, but … it’d work), and watch it on your own 4K/8K tely (or put it up on youtube to showoff you did something in 4K, where 95% of the viewers will watch it downscaled on their 24″ Monitors in 1080p …) If one has money to buy 4K tely now, I can’t see the problem throwing $3000 for a camera...

Nikon announces full-frame D810 with no OLPF

Nikon announces full-frame D810 with no OLPF Nikon has announced its latest midrange FX-format digital SLR: the D810. The camera replaces both the D800 and D800E, and features a 36.3MP CMOS sensor with no low-pass filter (in contrast to the D800E, which had the effect of its OLPF ‘canceled’). The EXPEED 4 engine from the D4s has been incorporated, allowing for a wider ISO range, improved image quality and metering as well as faster burst shooting, Nikon has also redesigned the mirror mechanism and introduced an electronic first-curtain shutter option to reduce the risk of ‘shutter shake’ reducing resolution....

Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD lab test report

The Canon 400/5.6 is I think better and in the ballpark price-wise. http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=929&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=3&API=2&LensComp=278&CameraComp=453&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0 The Canon is also better 560mm vs. 600mm if you add an extender. It doesn’t zoom so quickly though (what with all the adding and removing of extenders). BTW the 100-400 is an antique and a maybe to get replaced real soon (Canon have patented a newer version, so there’s a reasonable chance). The...

How To Speed Up Your WordPress Website

How To Speed Up Your WordPress Website How To Speed Up Your WordPress Website By Marcus Taylor June 25th, 2014 Techniques (WP)ToolsWordPress 0 Comments A few months ago, I ran an experiment to see how much faster I could make one of my websites in less than two hours of work. After installing a handful of WordPress plugins and fixing a few simple errors, I had improved the website’s loading speed from 1.61 seconds to 583 milliseconds. That’s a 70.39% improvement, without having made any visual changes to the website. According to a 2009 Akamai study1, 47% of visitors expect a page to load in under 2 seconds, and 57% of...

Three Exercises to Limit Yourself and Grow as a Photographer

Three Exercises to Limit Yourself and Grow as a Photographer A Post By: Simon Ringsmuth Today’s digital cameras are marvels of modern technology, allowing even the most inexperienced photographer access to state-of-the-art imaging systems that were the domain of supercomputers, and research institutions only a few decades ago. With prices plunging continually lower, and more devices equipped with cameras than ever before, photography has reached the point of ubiquity: cameras are everywhere, and anyone who wants to take photos can do so. But sometimes, the best thing you can do to grow as a photographer is to take the opposite approach and set some...

Huawei announces octa-core Honor 6 with 13MP camera

Huawei announces octa-core Honor 6 with 13MP camera The Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced the Honor 6, a high-end model that is squarely aimed at the the competition’s flagship devices, such as Apple’s iPhone 5s, the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 or Sony Xperia Z2. Mobile photographers will find the Honor 6’s camera specification decent but not specifically groundbreaking. The Huawei uses the 13MP 1/3-inch IMX214 BSI CMOS sensor that we’ve also seen on the OnePlus One. The lens offers a fast F2.0 aperture but there is no talk of an optical image stabilization system. A dual-LED flash is also on...

Reader showcase: Using a Sony NEX as a digital back on an antique camera

No pun intended, but this is old news. 😉 Multiple such projects have been discussed before in DPReview forums, and the DIY forum really doesn’t provide any better mechanism for giving details of such projects or browsing them — a well-indexed DIY user article mechanism would make more sense than a DIY forum. DIY instructions are either omitted or posted at other sites — as I’ve been doing for years, mostly in the Sony NEX forum. For example, here are two 2012 Instructables, both introduced in the NEX forum, explaining how I made a mount for my NEX-5 to be used as a...

What Is The Most Underrated Word In Web Design?

What Is The Most Underrated Word In Web Design? What Is The Most Underrated Word In Web Design? By Natasha Postolovski June 24th, 2014 User ExperienceUser InterationUX Design 0 Comments An “affordance” is a perceived signal or clue that an object may be used to perform a particular action. A chair sits at around knee height and appears to provide support. It affords sitting. A toothbrush has a handle a little longer than the human palm. It affords gripping. All of the objects that surround us have affordances: some are explicit (the “Push” sign above a door handle), and others are hidden (a chair could be used to break a window or...

5 Tips for Creating a Photo Essay with a Purpose

5 Tips for Creating a Photo Essay with a Purpose A Post By: Lynsey Mattingly As a photographer, you are a storyteller. The nouns are your subject matter; the verbs are the color and contrast that keep the story moving. A cast of characters all working together to get your point across. Instead of proper grammar, you ensure proper exposure. Instead of spelling errors, you watch for tack-sharp focus. For those times when the story is especially important and meaningful, or for when one image doesn’t say it all, there is the photographic essay. With blogging and social media, photo essays are more popular than ever: humorous or emotionally...

Using Off-camera Flash to Fix Lighting Problems for Outdoor Portraits

Using Off-camera Flash to Fix Lighting Problems for Outdoor Portraits A Post By: Mason Resnick When you’re taking pictures of family and friends outdoors, you are often not in control of the light, and that can lead to poor portraits. A few of the possible problems include: Raccoon eyes – deep shadows in the eye sockets (and other the nose) caused by bright overhead sunlight or light overcast skies Bright background obscuring the subject’s face – although some cameras automatically compensate for it, if you’re shooting in the shade and there’s a really bright background, that can mislead your camera into underexposing the image, leaving your...

Third time’s a charm: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Review

tl;dr: Sony should not *require* SDXC cards for XAVC-S video, and instead allow UHS-1 SDHC cards to work… I currently own the RX100m2, and I’m really looking forward to upgrading to the m3. However, I’m quite turned off by Sony’s requirement that one use SDXC cards when recording XAVC-S video — more importantly, I totally fail to understand it from an engineering standpoint. Perhaps I’m missing something, and I’m hoping this article’s author or others might clarify. Technical specs of most top SDHC and SDXC cards from Sandisk, Lexar, etc, show...

CSS-Driven Internationalization In JavaScript

CSS-Driven Internationalization In JavaScript CSS-Driven Internationalization In JavaScript By Maksim Chemerisuk June 23rd, 2014 CSSJavaScriptTechniques 0 Comments Writing front-end code often requires developers to address the problem of internationalization at some level. Despite the current standard1, which introduces a bunch of new tags, simply adding support for different languages in a JavaScript plugin is still complicated. As a result, for any new project, you have to build a solution from scratch or adapt various existing APIs from other plugins that you use. In this article, I’ll describe my approach with better-dom2 to...

Real Estate Photography Question and Answers – #8

Real Estate Photography Question and Answers – #8 Linda’s Question: Since I’m doing mostly video I was leaning toward the Tokina 11-16 for the f/2.8, since you cannot use a tripod like you can for stills, at least for the walk-through videos that I do.  My question for you is, given that I’m only gaining less than a stop (2.8 – 3.5), do you think the Canon 10-22 still trumps the Tokina? The Tokina costs less, but I’m willing to pay what’s necessary for the better lens. Answer: This is a tough call that probably only you can make. On close calls on important issues like what lens will meet your needs people sometimes don’t...

Getting Your Foot in the Door as a Freelance Assignment Photographer

Getting Your Foot in the Door as a Freelance Assignment Photographer A Post By: Scott Umstattd One of the biggest changes photography has seen over the last 10 years is in photojournalism and documentary photography. Some will see this change as good while others will see this change as bad. The improvements made to consumer DSLR cameras, lenses and editing software have opened the doors for many photography hobbyists to engage in documentary photography. Gone are the days when having a good camera and access to a darkroom separated the professional photographer from the amateur photographer. The playing field has been levelled and it is open season for...

Third time’s a charm: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Review

So, as usual, Sony gets the optics and sensor right, and messes up the user interface and JPEG engine. They’ve had the very same problem for a decade now. I bought a Canon S3IS (look it up) when it was new over the Sony competitor (I can’t even remember the model number now) for the very same two reasons. Thecus N2560 NAS storage for photographers – review

Thecus N2560 NAS storage for photographers – review A Post By: Sime This will be an overview of the N2560 and also a little bit of practical advice for people that have a computer with almost zero disk space remaining, and no clue what to do about it! Let’s start with the Thecus N2560 network attached storage (NAS) that we were sent to try out. Thecus N2560 NAS on Amazon The N2560 is a relatively small (when compared with the Synology 1512+) NAS device that holds two 3.5″ SATA disk drives, and sits quietly (20db) in the corner of your home office serving your images, document, media – whatever. When idle, the little guy only uses 9W...

5 Creative Ways to Process Infrared Photographs in Photoshop A Post By: Alex Morrison Digital cameras have made the process of infrared photography relatively simple and very accessible, compared to the days of shooting with infrared film. No darkroom is required and all you need to get started is an infrared filter on your lens (click through to read my article on How to do Surreal Digital Infrared Photography Without Expensive Gear or Camera Conversions) and to mount your camera on a tripod. Maybe you’ve tried digital infrared photography already. You’ve learned all the correct infrared shooting and compositional techniques so you know you...

High ISO Compared: Sony A7S v. A7R v. Canon EOS 5D III

Seems strange for me, but in comparison with the Canon 5D Mark III, at not exceptionnaly high ISO, says ISO 6400, with matched exposure, the Canon have much more Dynamic Range, streets and lights are less “burned”. It’s a mixed bag, with stellar performance on very high ISO, but underperforming in the dynamic range area at 6400 ISO or under, compared to Canon 5D Mark III, not even talking about resolution. Perfect for very high ISO and poor performer elsewhere, it’s a mixed bag… Source Article from...

‘Kodak City’ documents former imaging giant’s headquarters

Blacks came enmasse to Northern cities, collected benefits, rarely worked, depressed property values and turned once thriving neighborhoods into ghettos. The “whites” provided free food, rent, education, childcare, counseling, Head Start, affirmative action, and healthcare yet their situation did not improve, and eventually entire neighborhoods fell into decline. Kodak certainly didn’t go out of its way to damage any blacks, in fact from the 50s onward it was a model of integration. It simply couldn’t find enough skilled black workers because few took advantage of the...

Freebie: Ballicons 2 Icon Set (PNG, PSD, SVG) Freebie: Ballicons 2 Icon Set (PNG, PSD, SVG) By The Smashing Editorial June 19th, 2014 Freebies 1 Comment The value of icons lies in their ability to support content in web design and communicate with users in more intuitive and effective ways. Most users are known to first scan a page for visually interesting content, and only after something grabs their attention will they actually begin reading. In short, icons are a simple, effective way to draw users into the content of your website. Today’s icon set consists of a passionate set of icons in two styles (flat and light gradient). The...

4 Tips for Taking Better Photographs of Trees

4 Tips for Taking Better Photographs of Trees A Post By: Gavin Hardcastle Can’t see the wood for the trees? I’ve often struggled with the challenge of photographing trees in a way that captures the imagination and takes the viewer on a journey. I’ve learned that for me, there are two very effective ways to consider and photograph trees. Try asking yourself these two questions: Which tree is the leading actor? Which tree/trees are the supporting actors? I have to thank my mother for this interesting perspective. As a boy I was dragged to many a theatrical play and so I tend to look at my images as a stage on which there are certain...

Sony Alpha 7S added to test scene comparison tool

I downloaded some of the A7s raws from Imaging-Resource, and the higher ISO ones, say above 12,800, don’t really compete with the Nikon D4s. (I have my own D4s raws shot into deep shadow, with bad lighting adjacent.) The Sony is close but not as good for noise control and colour at say ISO 25,600–and the Nikon remains useable thru about ISO 40,000, while the Sony not really. Given the fact that the Sony has fewer pixels in the same space, I’d expected the Sony to do a bit better. Going to prove that Nikon knows something about processing the signal from the sensor that Sony...

10 Reasons Why a Pro is Using a Mirrorless Camera for Personal and Paid Jobs

10 Reasons Why a Pro is Using a Mirrorless Camera for Personal and Paid Jobs A Post By: Bryan Caporicci Everyone can take a picture, but as photographers (professional or aspiring), we have the skill set and the tools to create great images in any situation. We have the ability to turn the ordinary into extraordinary through photography. As the saying goes, the shoemaker’s kids have no shoes, and similarly, we often don’t put the same emphasis on images for ourselves and our family as we do for others and their families. Personally I’ve always struggled with feeling like the “photographer” during personal affairs; I don’t feel right bringing a big...

Tamron announces 14-150mm superzoom for Micro Four Thirds

What the hay? Is this not THE SAME LENS that Tamron announced something like two years ago? It’s been listed at B&H, as an upcoming product, the whole time. I waited, and waited… I was hoping at least they’d bring it out for the Christmas season — the 2013 season, I mean. And now, after all this waiting and hanging in limbo, finally…. They announce it again?? Well, at least they put a date on it this time. June 26, 2014. I hope that’s not a typo, and they didn’t really mean 2016… Source Article from...

Tamron makes 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC for Canon EOS M

I have just gone back to eos-m as my compact camera of choice. I bought an RX100 because the glacial focusing of the eos-m (and inability to focus is low light) was killing me. The RX100 is so close to being perfect but Sony, as usual, destroy their amazing hardware with stupid software. The two that I couldn’t tolerate are the lack of interval timer mode (with no option for remote control, although I believe that the RX100 II does this with a smartphone app) and the pathetic max 0.7eV, 3 shot bracket. I just don’t understand the second one; Sony had already gone to the trouble...

Amazon Fire phone packs 6 cameras for 3D effects and object scanning

Amazon Fire phone packs 6 cameras for 3D effects and object scanning As expected Amazon has today launched its first smartphone, the Fire Phone, at an event in Seattle, Washington. Amazon wants to differentiate the new device from the competition with two new and unique features. Dynamic Perspective is a 3D-user interface that changes the screen content based on where your face is in relation to the device. The Fire uses four cameras with a 120 degree viewing angle, one in each front corner, to track your eyes. Infrared lights ensure the feature is still working in darkness. Dynamic Perspective ties in with a range of tilt gestures that allow you to...

Faster UI Animations With Velocity.js

Faster UI Animations With Velocity.js By Julian Shapiro June 18th, 2014 CSSJavaScriptTechniques 2 Comments From a motion design perspective, Facebook.com is phenomenally static. It’s purposefully dumbed down for the broadest levels of compatibility and user comfort. Facebook’s iOS apps, on the other hand, are fluid. They prioritize the design of motion; they feel like living, breathing apps. This article serves to demonstrate that this dichotomy does not need to exist; websites can benefit from the same level of interactive and performant motion design found on mobile apps. Before...

How to Make Stronger Photographs Through the Process of Visual Design

How to Make Stronger Photographs Through the Process of Visual Design A Post By: Barry J Brady Photography is an art that relies on light. It also relies heavily on the visual message. You have no way of communicating anything to your viewer except through the visual language you use. If you use strong visual elements, your images will be effective and people will stop and look. If you want to convey a message, use the most powerful visual imagery you can: color to enhance your scene, light to punctuate it, and use shapes and texture to fill in the details. Doing this will not only be more satisfying for you as a photographer, but will make your visual...

How to do Surreal Digital Infrared Photography Without Expensive Gear or Camera Conversions

How to do Surreal Digital Infrared Photography Without Expensive Gear or Camera Conversions A Post By: Alex Morrison Photos made with invisible infrared light, rather than visible light, yield wildly strange and eerie photographs that always have the “WOW Factor.”  For landscapes or scenic imagery, infrared (IR) photography is highly regarded as fine art. But back in the days of film photography, shooting infrared was complicated, expensive and the results were often not great. For those with determination though, that one image that did ‘work” was always worth the trouble. But now the complexity of capturing infrared photos has changed – digital cameras have made the...

Sony’s curved sensors may allow for simpler lenses and better images

Sony’s curved sensors may allow for simpler lenses and better images The sensors inside digital cameras are – generally – flat. But curved sensors promise greater sensitivity, better image quality, and provide scope for simpler lenses.  Speaking at the VLSI symposium in Hawaii, Sony device manager Kazuichiro Itonaga showed a full-frame sensor and a smaller, 11mm diagonal sensor (which would be classed as 2/3″-type). The former is suited well for a fixed-lens full-frame camera (such as the RX1), while the latter is sized similarly to sensors in enthusiast compacts as well as the Nokia Lumia 1020. He did not detail the process but it...

Canon UK announces EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM for EOS M

Canon UK announces EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM for EOS M Canon UK has announced the EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM, a compact telephoto zoom for the EOS M mirrorless system. Canon claims the new lens offers high-end optical performance and a 3.5-stop optical image stabilization system. It provides an 88-320mm equivalent range on the EOS M. The stepping motor is designed to provide near-silent focusing, an especially attractive feature for video shooters. Many lenses in this class produce noise as the focus is attained, noise that can be picked up by microphones during video shooting. A stepping motor eliminates this, while also smoothing...

A User In Total Control Is A Designer’s Nightmare

A User In Total Control Is A Designer’s Nightmare A User In Total Control Is A Designer’s Nightmare By Matej Latin June 16th, 2014 User ExperienceUser InteractionVisual Design 5 Comments How do you balance the creative control you give to the users, the usability of the product they make with your tool and the flexibility of that tool? We designers have always had a problem of handing over creative control to the general population — the basic users. There are two reasons for this. The first is obvious: We are the ones who are supposed to know the principles of design and usability. Some of us were born with this feeling of what feels...

5 Ways To Break Out of a Creative Photography Rut

5 Ways To Break Out of a Creative Photography Rut A Post By: Mike Newton I’m a full time photographer that concentrates on shooting restaurant and bar interiors, food, and cocktails. After strictly shooting that subject matter for long time I found myself uninspired, so I decided to do something about it. I’m going to share four tips I’ve used over the years to get back on track creatively, hopefully they will help you get out of your photography rut too. 1. Get out of your comfort zone – physically I find that I loose inspiration when I’ve been in the same area too long. When things become familiar they become less exciting. If...

Spice-Up Your Outdoor Photos with Wireless Off-camera Flash and Gels

Spice-Up Your Outdoor Photos with Wireless Off-camera Flash and Gels A Post By: Mason Resnick Wireless off-camera flash is a great way to add a splash of light and give a scene an added dimension, or to fill in shadows in high-contrast scenes. The TTL (through the lens) exposure feature makes it easier than ever to get a well-exposed image without the need for a flash meter. However, there’s one more ingredient that you can add that will open up a new world of creative possibilities for your photography. That ingredient is easy to find, easy to use, and affordable: colored flash gels. What’s a gel? A gel is a piece of colored cellophane that you place...

Dive in: Waterproof compact group test posted

Last year I tried the Olympus TG-2 which was one of the 2013 recommendations. I was really shocked about the bad image quality compared to any other camera (e.g. S95, TZ10, RX100, FZ38, some mFT-Bodies) I have used before. The lens of the TG-2 is fast, but it’s so soft that open wide is unusable. The JPEG engine was also one of the bad ones. I can not agree to the 2013 and this new 2014 comparison, because there is one really important feature which is a must for UW photography: RAW support. Without RAW the pictures will have heavy false colours and the UW programs will lead brownish or...

Real Estate Photography Question and Answers – #7

Real Estate Photography Question and Answers – #7 Jerome’s Question: I did my first real estate photography earlier this year and the realtor sold it pretty quick. I would like to do more but I’m not sure where to get a client base for that. I still have my day job that pays me well. But I would like to find a part-time gig that pays decent on the weekends, maybe even a couple of days during the week. Who can I work for? Answer: Real estate photography works best if you create your own business and work independently. The companies that hire RE photographers keep most of the profit! There isn’t enough profit in RE photography...

Two Videos on How to Take Care of Your Camera Gear

A Post By: Darlene Hildebrandt This week I found two different videos on how to take good care of your camera gear from two different perspectives (serious and more tongue in cheek). It’s important to take care of your equipment to make sure it keeps functioning properly and takes nice clean images with no dust spots. The first video by photographer Gregory Cazillo is the serious one. He goes through a list of a few things you can do to protect, clean and maintain your gear in good condition. He recommends jotting down all your serial numbers so when you are are travelling out of the...

How to use a Gobo to add Depth to Your Portraits with Subtractive Lighting

How to use a Gobo to add Depth to Your Portraits with Subtractive Lighting A Post By: Jerry W Venz It’s our responsibility as photographers to use the interplay of light and shadow on our subjects to create the third dimension in our two-dimensional media. When the shadows are absent, we should do our best to craft the direction of natural light with tools that do this organically–tools that do not call attention to themselves. One tool that I often see photographers using outdoors, typically in an attempt to counteract the effects of ambient light on a subject rather than simply crafting existing light, is flash fill. The problem, however, is that the use of...

Olympus Stylus SP-100EE Real-world Samples

I like the color rendition, like the one of my XZ-2, but definitely not better than most 1/1.7″ from other manufacturers as said below. My old 7MP 1/2.3″ sensor PowerShot A720 IS takes sharper pictures than this camera. I downsized picture ISO125-P6050380 to 7MP to compare with the A710, then to 2MP to be seen on an HD TV screen but picture still shows lack of sharpness… Source Article from...

Macphun Intensify Pro Software Review

Macphun Intensify Pro Software Review A Post By: Andrew S. Gibson Intensify Pro (currently on 20% off for dPS readers here) is a Mac only image editing program from MacPhun. With apologies to Windows users (I really wish this software was available for PCs as well) let’s dive in and see what this software can do. One of the reasons that you buy plug-ins is to take advantage of the ways you can use them to increase mid-tone contrast and enhance detail. Indeed, this is the main reason to buy Intensify Pro because it allows you to do this quickly and easily and with far more functionality than is offered by Photoshop or...

Creative Reasons to use Intentional Camera Movement

Creative Reasons to use Intentional Camera Movement A Post By: Katie McEnaney One of the earliest lessons you likely learned as a photographer was the importance of keeping your camera steady and stable. You wanted tack-sharp focus, so you learned to tuck in your elbows and support your camera properly. But why limit yourself when there are so many creative reasons to move your camera? Try Intentional Camera Movement or ICM ICM is the abbreviation for Intentional Camera Movement, a term that covers a wide range of photography situations. What brings these different situations together is the fact that rather than remaining still, the camera...

2014 iPhone Photography Awards winners announced

The demise of photography continues. First, we are told the camera doesn’t matter. Now a contest based on what camera you used. What a joke. Some are way over processed to try to achieve a look you would get with a real camera. Paid photography’s decline continues also, people are going to see what you can do on a phone and say “maybe I don’t need to hire someone for my daughters wedding”. All these seminars preach “you can have a career in photography”. They say that because they want you to pay for more seminars and more gear. But, there are hardly...

DPReview Reader Showcase: Underwater photography

We had planned to coincide with World Oceans Day but apparently that was last Sunday, but we figured we’d do it anyway. The responses to our appeal were impressive – take a look at a few of our favorites and check out the forum thread to see more and join the conversation. And if you’re inspired to dive in and take some photos of your own, rest assured our 2014 waterproof group test is just around the corner. Source Article from...

They’re fun, artistic, show a sense of humour and creativity. But will they want them in 15 years time or the more “normal” shots? I used to go to kindergartens and child minding centres and just take photos of the kids running around and playing – natural smiles and laughter. $7 a pop, 5 for me, 2 for the minding centre – made a lot of money from the mums; they got lovely shots of their kids playing and building, digging, having fun. Sometimes the best shot are the un-posed ones, the kid hugging the dog, poking his head behind the monkey bars when you call his...

misolo, If add other fasts, I agree with you that lens makes difference, and the easy example is Sony RX100-M3 has better IQ than RX10 in SAME higher ISO. Of course, primes are optimized for its focus length and it has less number of glass than zoom (not mention it is faster). BUT, before we make things complicated, as you mentioned crop fact, lets look the ration of sensor area (sensor area is directly reflecting to Pixel size) in mm2: – APSC/MFT=370/225=1.644. – 1/1.7″/1/2.3″ = 43.3/28.5=1.519 The difference between APSC and MFT is greater than 1/1.7″ and...

A Collection of Powerful Black and White Images

A Collection of Powerful Black and White Images A Post By: Darlene Hildebrandt I have a background in black and white photography – using actual film and processing in a darkroom. The entire first year of my two year college photography program was spent doing black and white photography only, nothing else. I came to love working in the darkroom and seeing the image appear on the paper was magic. Now in the digital age, making black and white is a choice you can make after you shoot the images – which gives you options we didn’t have in the film days. So I wanted to share some B&W images to get you thinking about the...
