My how the game has changed. A few months ago everyone was agog (and still are!) with maxi zoom cameras. Maja Daniels won the Contour by Getty Images Portrait Prize after being selected from among 721 applicants – the most entries ever received for a Getty Images grant, claims the stock agency, which has been running the Grants for Editorial Photography for the past eight years.

My how the game has changed. A few months ago everyone was agog (and still are!) with maxi zoom cameras. Now it seems a few major makers seems to be intent on feeding the market with large aperture, fixed focal length cameras. Among them: Ricoh, Sony, Fujifilm, Sigma. Fall colours can be very different from place to place. Some areas will have a very short colour-changing season of a week or less, while elsewhere it can last nearly a month. Every location will produce different colours, depending on the type of flora and other factors such as climate and soil. For this image I decided I wanted to cover all of Lower Manhattan from the Statue of Liberty (far left) to the Empire State Building (far right, under the Brooklyn Bride, colored red, white and blue. Warning: There are reports that “Reanalyze button in the Upright Lens Correction area doesn’t work. Adobe appears to have screwed it up in 5.2RC and not fixed it in the final releaseâ€. It might be smart to hold off on installing this version. Lightroom 5.2 beta has been available for a couple of months, but today Adobe released the final version of 5.2. As the sun dipped down I was able to completely remove the flash and use the sun as my main light source, with no fill. This shot of the Blue Ridge Mountains was taken with an EOS 5D Mark III and EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II lens at 200mm. The telephoto nature of the lens compresses the distance between the ridges, creating a flat, graphic look with shades of blue created by the mountains and mist in the valleys. Exposure is 1/3″, f/16, ISO 400. This shot of a lone pine on the side of a cliff was taken from Glacier Point at sunset. Started out doing photography at the age of 6 using an uncle's old 1940 kodak brownie box camera. At 15 years of age, I decided to buy my very own 1975 Praktica SLR camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D850. I do unpaid TFP and commercial paid work.
