What grammar rules are they changing?
Gigantic, giant, ginger, ginseng, gist, giraffe. Gem, generate, germ, gel, gentle….
When followed by an “e”, “i”, or “y” it is often pronounced soft. But it can be either hard or soft and its determined by convention.
