Used values have no relevance whatsoever to Nikon and therefore don’t influence their decisions about what to make and market even one iota. The OP asked why Nikon made the 24-70/4. I answered.

You seem to think I said that all consumers want the lowest price and don’t care about anything else. I did not say anything close to that. I said price is the strongest factor (among many) in driving buying decisions for the vast majority of consumer goods.
That’s why Apple offers computers and phones in many price tiers, and why Mercedes makes 4-door sedans that cost $35,000 to sit alongside their 4-door sedans that cost $180,000.
Finally, I sold cameras for a living for 15 years; I was involved in tens of thousands of individual camera buying decisions. I’m not guessing here.
Obviously, when I say ‘price, also price, and, finally, price’, I’m having fun with an exaggeration. But it’s not that much of an exaggeration.
