Zhong Yi Optics has released information about an 85mm f/1.2 lens it intends to make available in May. The Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2, which the company is calling ‘The Dream’, is aimed at still photographers as well as videographers, and has a covering circle suitable for full frame sensors.
The manual focus lens is constructed using two Extra-Low dispersion elements and four elements made from what the company describes as high refractive index glass. There are a total of nine elements arranged in six groups, and ZY Optics claims the lens produces sharp images even when used wide open.
Eleven blades are used in the iris for a ‘totally circular aperture’, with a range of f/stops available from f/1.2 to f/16. The lens features a manual-only aperture ring that is click-less to avoid disruption to audio during filming. The closest focus distance is 1m and the filter thread measures 77mm. The 921g lens will be shipped in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sony FE mounts from May, while Sony A and Pentax K are promised for later in the year. The Mitakon Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 will cost $799.

Started out doing photography at the age of 6 using an uncle's old 1940 kodak brownie box camera. At 15 years of age, I decided to buy my very own 1975 Praktica SLR camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D850. I do unpaid TFP and commercial paid work.
