MIT and UMass researchers develop world’s first flat ultra-wide-angle fisheye lens

Researchers with the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and MIT have developed a new type of fisheye lens that is flat and crafted from a single piece of glass. The lens is round, according to the researchers, and it is capable of capturing sharp 180-degree panoramas. This is the first flat fisheye lens made from a single piece of glass, which measures 1mm thick. Ordinary spherical fisheye lenses are made from multiple pieces of glass designed to bend the light in such a way that it produces circular wide-angle images. The newly developed...

Adobe’s teases a new Sensei-powered Sky Replacement tool coming soon to Photoshop

[embedded content] Today, Adobe published a sneak peek video of its latest Sensei-powered feature coming soon to Photoshop, Sky Replacement. Similar to the AI-powered sky replacement feature found in Skylum’s Luminar 4 editing program, Adobe’s new feature uses its Sensei AI to determine the foreground from the sky in an image and automatically masks the sky overlay to blend in seamlessly. While Photoshop will offer its own selection of presets, it’s also possible to import your own image of the sky. Note how even the small details at...

Reply to “Err 01 Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts.”

Hello, I’ve been having some issues with one of my lenses for a bit now. Very often, not every time, an error message comes out on my camera: “Err 01 Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts.” when I use my EF-S 17-85mm. It doesn’t appear when I use my EF-S 60mm lens. What’s more interesting, the lens works perfectly well in Live View Mode! Any suggestions? Anyone had a similiar issue? I did call Canon, but they only offered fixing it without any information on what it could...

Samyang has released its own lens simulator web app

Optics manufacturer Samyang has released a new lens simulator web app that allows you to see how certain lenses will affect the look of a scene based on sensor size and lens settings. The web app creates a simulated scene using a cutout portrait of a woman as well as three backgrounds. By changing the sensor size, focal length, aperture and distance, the scene will adjust to show a simulated representation of what the image would like like when the shutter is pressed. The web app is somewhat rudimentary, but its simulated representations do a...

Turboant X7 Pro Electric Scooter Review

What does a review of an electric scooter have to do with a photography site? While I have been posting quite a few “catch-up” reviews recently (and more on the way), some of our readers might want to take a short break along with me from all the camera industry noise. Every once in a while, it is nice to enjoy something different, wouldn’t you agree? Anyway, I recently got ahold of an electric...

In this review, we will take a closer look at the Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 and see how it stacks up against its competitors, the Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 R, and XF 35mm f/2 R WR. I only had a chance to use the Fujifilm X mount version of the lens for this review,...
