Reply to Is it worth to upgrade 5d with 5d mark II ?

Hi, I have an old Canon 5d. Is it even worth upgrading to mark II? Or should I rather consider a 6d? I have no intention on spending too much money on something like 5d mark III. 5d mk II or 6d? I know 6d has better ISO performance, but I like the build quality of 5d series. Does the 6d feel like a toy compared to 5d? I have never held one in my hands. What about autofocus system, which one is better? How their outer af points perform? Can you shoot f1.4 lens without focus and recompose...

Fuji XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II Review

Posted by on 8th, Sep, 2020 in Blog | 0 comments

Fujifilm updated its XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS with the OIS II version in January of 2015. Sporting an all-plastic design, this compact and lightweight kit zoom lens was designed to be used with Fuji’s entry-level X-series cameras for everyday photography needs. It came in two different colors (silver and black) to fit different camera styles. Despite its decent performance as an all-around kit lens, Fuji decided to discontinue it in favor of the newer lenses like the XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ and XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS. In this...

Announced in July of 2019, the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR is a professional-grade ultra-wide angle zoom lens designed for landscape, architecture and environmental portrait photographers. Sporting a fast f/2.8 aperture, a metal weather-sealed body, complex optics and modern coatings, the Fuji XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR is an exceptionally well-made lens with very consistent performance characteristics. In this review, I will be taking a closer look at this lens and compare it to other Fujifilm lenses, such as the XF 14mm f/2.8 R and XF...

Fuji XF f/1.0 R WR Announcement

It is an exciting week for the Fujifilm fans because the company announced its fastest prime lens for the X mount – the Fuji XF f/1.0 R WR. This is a significant milestone for the company, as it is the world’s first f/1.0 mirrorless lens with autofocus capabilities. Obviously, a telephoto lens with such a wide maximum aperture is not going to be small, light, or cheap. It weighs a whopping 845 grams – even heavier than the XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR, and only 150 grams lighter than the XF 50-150mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR! Take a look at the size...

Announced in December of 2013, the lens is aimed for landscape and architecture photographers who are looking for a compact and lightweight lens with great image quality. Reply to vignetting?

tbower: Bingo. I shoot raw as well and Lightroom (when I load the lens profile) zaps all the vignetting, etc. So…basically, I never see it and because of Lightroom, never care about it. I’ve read various reviews crying about the vignetting, but it’s something you never see if you’re shooting raw and using Lightroom. Lightroom will automatically correct any distortion as well. You can also adjust the vignette and distortion control in the camera for JPG...

What It is Like to Switch from PC to Mac

Ever since I purchased the iMac Pro, as well as the MacBook Pro for my photography needs, I have been thinking about making the switch from PC to Mac. In this article, I decided to document my experience working with both systems, which might be helpful for those who are considering to switch. If you are looking for a more detailed comparison of PCs and Macs for photography needs, please see my PC vs Mac for Photography article. Reply to Advice on new body (6D Mk ii vs. 5D Mk iv) + best overall lens

amee@work: Having spent some time looking at your beautiful photo stream I agree with natures-pencil above regarding what you have achieved with the 40D. It is a great example that skill of the photographer will always be the most significant factor in a great picture. I have very similar kit to you, including a Fuji X100s (fun camera). I just recently pulled the trigger on a EOS R at a great price. My main reason for upgrading was for improved focus accuracy, including eye AF, for portraiture. 6 odd years ago I got a 5Dii to replace a Nikon...

Compose Better Photos with Gestalt Theory

Compose Better Photos with Gestalt Theory

One of the better-known theories of perception is Gestalt Psychology. It deals with the way we organize information (usually visuals, but not always) into wholes. While Gestalt Theory isn’t mentioned very often in discussions about composing good photos, I think that’s a mistake; these principles can clearly improve your compositions. In this video, I dive into four of the most relevant components of Gestalt Theory for photographers: the Law of Closure, the Law of Similarity, the Law of Common Fate, and Figure-Ground Organization....

I am a haiku poet who lives in India. in the last few months, i have connected with nature more than ever before. In the mornings and evenings i have been taking pictures of birds around my house. The pandemic made me ask some fundamental questions about life, and one of them is, how can I help the people who have been affected by the virus. As an answer, I have collected my haiku related to birds and the...

Reply to Nikon Teleconverter with Nikon 105mm micro lens

I have both the Nikon TC-14e II and TC-14e III and can confirm that both work with the 105mm f/2.8G VR Micro. AF functions do work properly, although I can’t say that I have used either combination that much in the field, so I can’t say how much AF performance is affected. It does struggle a little in low light and low contrast situations, but generally speaking, it still focuses pretty snappy with either TC. The lens does appear to focus a little quicker with the TC-14e III in some situations. I believe that Nikon originally...

Reply to Crossed over to Nikon from Canon with a D3500- Macro photography Lens suggestions?

Well, first of all, it would help a lot if you used some punctuation when you write. You know, commas, periods, that sort of stuff… because, let me tell you, reading and understanding your message above was worse than going through a typical page of James Joyce’s Ulysses… Anyway, in the world of Nikon, it is very simple: the lenses are all named “Nikkor”. Many camera manufacturers that make their own lenses give them such a name: for example, Minolta lenses used to be called “Rokkor”; Fujifilm call them “Fujinon”,...

wooden trade [deleted] Posted 10 years ago. Edited by wooden trade (member) 10 years ago Put your lens cap on.Set your ISO very high. Set camera in M. Open the aperture, set shutter for about 1/2 second. Press your button. Use the Zoom of your camera screen and scan the image. Hot pixels will show up as Red, Green or Blue dots. Anytime you look at a camera at the camera store, you should do this. Most sensors have a hot pixel or two. The problem is when the pixel bleeds into other parts of the image, or is smack in the middle of a spot you...

I will try to explain I have been shooting film for about 30 years and only got my first DSLR a few days ago. The way i have been shooting film because i was limited to 36 exposures is talking 3 shots, 1 in SP another in AP and final in M just to make sure i get a good shot but now i am using DSLR i am doing all the settings and meter modes. Yesterday i took 100 shots of the same flower just because i can. What is confusing me is the way other people are taking photos so i will give some examples. Reply to Flash

I just purchased my first full frame camera. The d750 bundle with the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VR. I’m having issues with one or both. When the VR is turned on (on the lens) the built in flash will not pop up in auto when needed. If I’m in M or A mode, the flash will only pop up randomly if at all. And if it does, I can only take one shot and then the camera refuses to focus or anything really. But my 50mm seems to work fine in the same situations. And so does my 70-300mm VR lens. I have 14 days to return or exchange the bundle to Best Buy but...

Reply to Who uses this for weddings?

It’s absolutely fine for weddings, just don’t expect creamy smooth bokeh like you’ll get from the 24-70 f2.8.That said,it’s sharp wide open at all focal lengths so long as you don’t pixel peep into the corners. There have been suggestions that it’s soft at 120mm.I have not noticed this so can only conclude that there is a degree of sample variation.Oh,and the 2.8 doesn’t have the reach of course.
