read moreBefore CES there were rumors that we would see a Kodak-branded mobile device at the show, but those who were expecting an innovative, imaging-centric gadget have been disappointed. The Kodak IM5 is simply a nondescript, mid-tier Android smartphone with the Kodak name slapped on it in an attempt to attract customers who still associate the brand with quality and innovation. The phone comes with a 5-inch 720p screen, 8GB of built-in storage and a microSD slot. Android 4.4 is powered by a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor and 1GB of RAM. On...
read more* Bigger Sensors will have better SNR / High ISO performance (but that’s all electronics, nothing to do with optics). * Bigger sensor will produce more heat inside the camera body, so will be more difficult to design for applications, where high readout is required, like video, higher burst rate, electronic shutter etc. * And less significant factor (subjective) is the Dof will be shallower on FF which can be advantage or disadvantage depending on your applications. Portraits (maybe) advantage, in Landscape (arguably) disadvantage...

read moreThe shutter on my old Canon 5D Mark II died while on a trip to Fiji earlier this year. It happened quickly; I was shooting a panorama when horizontal black bars started appearing in some of the shots. After about 10 more photos in between turning the camera off and on again, it was dead. The shutter was stuck closed and powering the camera on yielded a helpless sounding soft ‘clunk’ and an “Error 20″ message. I was quoted around $500 to get this fixed at a repair shop. But.. an OEM replacement shutter is only $90 on eBay. So,...
