Portrait Salon ‘rejects’ exhibition opens in London

Posted by on 7th, Nov, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

I went to the last finalists exhibition, last Christmas. These pictures look like “the ones that didn’t quite make it”, so if you like these definitely check out the show if you can. I expect the World Press Awards show, which is good, will be across the river at the Royal Festival Hall at about the same time. The Taylor Wessing was largely environmental portraiture, and pretty good. For gearheads, they put up a PDF with details for all the pictures. So you can see how almost none of the finalists were shot at 85 to 135mm...

Drift Stealth 2 action camera is maker’s smallest yet

Drift, maker of the Ghost-S and HD Ghost, has introduced its smallest action camera to date: the Stealth 2. Its diminutive size is the Stealth 2’s most notable feature – it’s half the size of the Ghost-S, measuring 3.15 x 1.65 x 1.06 inches, and it weighs 40% less. The combination of a 1.3-inch Mono Graphic Backlit LCD and status LED panel show the camera’s current operations and mode, and is joined by support for the Drive 2-Way Remote Control. Videos can be captured in either 720p at up to...

Review: A 34-Inch 3440×1440 Monitor is Great for Photo Editing, So is it Better if You Curve It?

Back in June I posted about how the then newly released LG 34UM95-P had changed my editing workflow going from dual screens when editing to a single ultra wide one. Today I’d like to follow up on that experience with a new one with the curved version of the LG monitor, the 34UC97-S. Just as with the 34UM95, the 34UC97 is a 34” ultra wide LED backlit IPS LCD monitor with the same native resolution of 3440×1440 at 60Hz. On paper you would be forgiven for thinking they’re twins and, indeed, on all but a few counts they are. The...

Portrait Tutorial: How to Dial in the White of the Eyes in Photoshop

Adoptive Mother Connects with Daughter Through Creative Cosplay Portrait Series

In 2012, photographer Kelly Lewis and her husband adopted young Alice Lewis into their family. Between Alice’s dream of becoming a model/actress, Kelly’s passion for photography, and the entire family’s love of cosplay, the trio quickly found the mutual ground that would forge a deep bond between Alice and her adoptive parents. These mutual fascinations have turned into a fun and popular portrait project called ‘Malice of Alice’ in which Alice dresses up, gets into character, and poses for her mother’s lens. Kelly and Alice...

Rumor: Olympus Set to Announce ‘Exciting’ New OM-D Camera In January

Olympus has been quiet on the OM-D front for a while now. Ever since the E-M10 was released in January, the only real addition to the line was the silver E-M1 and a major firmware update in September. But that looks to be changing soon. According 4/3 Rumors‘ “highly trusted sources,” an “exciting” new OM-D camera is in the works for a January announcement! And to make matters more interesting, while there are no specs out yet, the camera is said to be very different and not just an evolution of the standard OM-D line. Source...

In their words, “the...

Overcoming Fear in Photography

A Post By: Adam Welch Fear. It’s an emotion to which we all can relate. Luckily, nervousness or fear in photography can be overcome with practice and patience. After speaking with a few fellow photographers and borrowing from my own experiences, I have listed some shared fears among photographers and ways you can learn to overcome them. 1. The fear: I’m afraid I don’t know what I’m doing. Every photographer at some point feels a little out of their depth when encountering a new situation or problem. Whether it’s learning to use a...
