read moreSamsung has evolved into Apple’s main rival in the smartphone world for good reason. The Korean manufacturer’s high-end models are usually among the best in terms of both features and performance. However, there has been one constant point of criticism: the Galaxy devices’ plastic shells tend to look a little cheap next to the metal and glass competition from HTC, Sony and Apple. To address that point, and no doubt with the upcoming iPhone 6 in mind, Samsung has today announced the Galaxy Alpha - the first Galaxy...

read moreA Post By: Mike Newton I recently bought a Sony A7 to compliment my Canon 6D DSLR. A friend convinced me that having small-form, full frame camera would be an entire different way of shooting. I value his opinion, so I picked one up. You can see how I used it in my last article:  when to trick your camera for the perfect exposure. A New Love of Prime Lenses I started off with a Sony 55mm f/1.8 and a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens that requires a Sony adapter. The 55mm shoots like a dream and is insanely light-weight. The 24-70mm and adapter are super...
read moreA Post By: James Maher If you do portraiture of any kind you are probably used to people giving one look when the camera is away from them and another when it is on them. This is the unfortunate game of the portrait photographer. For my own work, I find that many of the most poignant portraits of people are the ones in between the actual ‘portraits’ taken during a session. These are the moments when your subject is at ease, in their element, thinking about something, and when they have the most interesting expressions. So how do you...
read moreThese photos are great, but I wish the Wx Channel would do weather again, like they used to back in the 1980/90’s. Now they do almost everything but weather. I’ve been trying to petition them to develop a W2 channel for weather only, like MTV was supposed to do with MTV2 back in the day. Fortunately, I can get all my pertinent wx info on smartphone apps now… That last photo looks like it was taken in the neighborhood of Microsoft’s “Bliss” photo. Source Article from...
read moreI guess the revelation for me was not that more pixels give you more options – as you say, that’s pretty obvious – but that the camera that provides them isn’t fatally compromised – for this sort of work – in other areas in order to achieve the detail. It could easily have been – slower AF, lower frame-rate, smaller buffer – but in practice they’re all good enough – if not, obviously, best-in-class. The large file sizes could have been a deal breaker, too. It does have a negative...
read moreHey you know that article you read on dpreview.com a couple of months ago that you really liked? What was it called again…? do you remember who wrote it…? Yeah, we hear you. Since we made some site changes earlier this summer it’s been pretty hard to find certain types of articles but we’ve been working on it, and we’re pleased to announce a new index page for non-review content. Referred clients are often more loyal, consistent, more suited to work with you and they often send more referrals your way. How do I know this? By Leo Reynolds Referrals work – but have a system My partner Nicole and I have gotten 80% of our videography work from referrals. And it didn’t happen by accident, we created a system that ensures we don’t have to go out looking for our next gig. A system that we created at the start...

Hyperlapsing is a technique used in multimedia to string together a collection of photographs or video frames in order to produce a cinematic experience; the methodology is also more commonly known as a stop-motion time-lapse. Microsoft researchers, Johannes Kopf, Michael Cohen, and Richard Szeliski, all noted that first-person video cameras could capture...
