“Making It Right”: A New Smashing Book on Product Management For A Startup World

“Making It Right”: A New Smashing Book on Product Management For A Startup World By Vitaly Friedman July 24th, 2014 Smashing Books 0 Comments You’ve seen this happen a thousand times. An organization struggles with a high level of internal enthusiasm and creative chaos that team leaders don’t know how to handle any more. To bring order into projects, a new product manager is appointed, under huge expectation, and with unclear responsibilities and big goals defined within a very short timeframe. That’s when things usually go south,...

Dispelling the Myth of Good Light and Bad Light

A Post By: Daniel Korzeniewski There is no such thing as bad light, there is just light. Take advantage of every situation. Photography is all about the light. In fact, if there is no light hitting the sensor, there is no photo. Different times of the day, or weather conditions, can create different moods and situations. As you probably know, you can achieve amazing and compelling results by shooting in the early morning, or from late afternoon well into twilight. This is known as the golden hour and the blue hour, respectively. However,...

How to use Lightroom Develop Presets to Learn Processing Tips

A Post By: Andrew S. Gibson In my previous article you learned how to create a vintage effect using Lightroom. I started by showing you some Lightroom Develop Presets you can use as a shortcut, and finished by demonstrating some techniques you can use yourself. The hidden message in the article was that one way to learn how to use Lightroom is to buy some Develop Presets (or download some free ones) and analyze them to see how they work. You can then apply the same techniques to your own photos, and even create your own Develop Presets. Today...

Reason 2: Shoot video. “And 36mp is still too many.”Baseless statement. With false assumptions aren’t founded on facts, actual data, observations...

Sony expands image sensor production for mobile devices

Reuters has reported that Sony is planning to invest 35 billion yen (approximately US$345 million) to expand its manufacturing capacity  of smartphone and tablet image sensors. Apparently this move is at least partly driven by Sony’s aim to increase its orders for image sensors in front-facing cameras that are mainly used for video-chats and taking self-portraits. According to the report, the funds will go towards increasing production of stacked CMOS sensors at two sites on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu and...

Taking your DSLR into the Backcountry Safely

A Post By: Erin Fitzgibbon In the Northern Hemisphere summer is finally here and that means it’s the beginning of camping season. It’s time to haul out the tent, the propane stove, the canoe, the bug hat and the DSLR. You visit all these beautiful places, gain a sense of peace and respect for Mother Nature, then come home and wish you were still there. Having beautiful, sharp images of the brutal trail you faced, the noisy bird that woke you at dawn, or the incredible sunset you experienced can make the experience all the more rich. The...

Retzius, the K-5 series also had reports of this. I got one anyway and never encountered the problem. I’m not sure how many cameras there are that don’t have a considerable flaw – pick your brand, and you either get mirrors dropping out, oil splatter on sensor, shutter shock at certain frequently used shutter speeds, light leaks, the list goes on. It’s a bit like the real water pub: “We’ve got underexposing cameras, overexposing cameras, poorly white-balancing cameras, non-waterproof waterproof cameras,...
