How to Create Amazing Reflection Photos using Puddles

A Post By: Katie McEnaney People are captivated by reflections, and photographers eagerly seek out still bodies of water in order to capture stunning reflection shots. But a perfect reflection may be closer than you think, especially if it has just been raining. Puddle reflection Photographing puddle reflections Puddles are an incredibly useful if perhaps surprising source for reflections. Puddles are generally shallow and found in protected areas or depressions, which means that they are likely to hold smooth, still water. They can also be...

Adobe Camera Raw 8.6 and DNG Converter 8.6 release candidates available

Posted by on 18th, Jul, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

rodskogj: As a user of PhotoShop CS6, I look at the possibility that support for ACR in CS6 will end soon and I’ll have to move to CaptureOne, LR, or something else for raw extraction, because I won’t rent from Adobe. So instead of 8.6, what about 8.51, since it’s so few cameras–though yes there are the lens profiles? The point remains with the move from ACR 6 (which ended at 6.7) to 7, support for ACR in Photoshop CS5.1 ended. So the D810 may be the obvious reason, but you ignored the real question. Real Estate Photography Question and Answers – #10

Diana’s Question:  I would like to buy one of your books, I’m just not sure which book is best for me. I am a realtor, not exactly a beginner but not proficient by any means either! I have two DSLR camera’s, a Sony A350 and a Nikon D90. I have a wide angle and couple other zoom lenses for the Sony but only one 18-105m for the Nikon. Sometimes my photo’s are awesome when shooting a property but not consistently. I assume it is the settings and flash I’m using that is causing me the biggest headache. I do not know what settings for...

Sometimes you may find that you spend more time searching for a new lens, filter or accessory than actually photographing with it. When you meet other photographers you will hear them talking about the latest piece of equipment that has just launched. Why is this? Why are some photographers obsessed with equipment. My personal opinion is that we fall into the...

Using Composition to Create More Powerful Portraits

A Post By: Oded Wagenstein As part of my series on portrait photography, in this article, I will discuss composition, one of the most important aspects of creating a good portrait image. Are there any laws regarding framing a portrait? Can I leave hands, fingers, or part of the head out of the frame? Does a portrait have to include a face? I will answer these questions that my students often ask. It is important to keep in mind that as in all aspects of art, there are no “rules” or “must dos” here, because you can do anything as long...

Drone lighting could be coming soon to your studio

A flying flash rig that tracks the position of both photographer and subject to maintain consistent lighting angles has been developed by researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Cornell University. In a project designed to test co-ordination between aerial robots and ground-based targets, researchers programmed a flash-carrying drone to light people in the studio as the subjects and the photographer changed positions. In the researchers’ experiments, the robot helicopter was equipped with a continuous-light source, a...
