A Post By: James Maher Chrysler Building My most common critique when looking at digital images is that they look over-processed. It is so easy to do this and such a common mistake, that it is important to understand the main mistakes that photographers make when retouching their images. Keep in mind that I am not referring to images that purposely are made to look like fairy tales or use creative color for a specific purpose, but I am referring to heavy handed post-processing when it is not necessary. Good photographs do not make you notice...

Along with the camera body itself they sent me three lenses including the XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS, the XF 35mm F1.4R and the XF 60mm F2.4 R macro lenses. Upon removing these items from the box I was immediately impressed with the professional fit and finish of the camera body, lenses and lens hoods. Larger companies like Canon could learn a thing about lens...
read moreIf you shoot primarily with wide-angle and ultra wide-angle lenses, you know how difficult it is to add filters. A lot of wide-angle lenses feature deep petal-style lenshoods and lack normal filter threads, making it impossible to add standard threaded filters. The FotodioX WonderPana uses a threaded ring and mount system which enables the attachment of 145mm round filters and square drop-in filters to several ultra wide-angle optics. Click here to read our review of the FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Filter System Source Article from...

(b) The Supreme Court does not merely say that “Copyright Infringement is not Theft.” It said, “Copyright Infringement IS MORE COMPLICATED THAN THEFT–oh, and by the way, it’s still ILLEGAL and WRONG.” In DOWLING v. UNITED STATES, 473 U.S. 207 (1985), Henry Blackmun writing the majority decision says, “Since the statutorily defined property rights of a copyright...
read moreApart from the niggling ongoing fees, the problem with CLOUD computing of ANY kind (not just Adobe, but let’s include Facebook as an example) is that YOU, the USER, lose control of your environment. For example, FB routinely “updates” its user experience. YOU, the USER have no say whether you want to take the update, or stick with what workds for you. Again, Cloud services can go “down”, whether for maintenance or system failure: not much help if YOU, the USER, is on a tight deadline and need cloud access to...

read moreAs other reviews already stated, this new 50/1.4 Art Sigma comes very close to the Zeiss Otus, but for only 1/4 of the price. Superb work for Sigma, since the 35/1.8, Sigma is really on fire with their latest Art lens creations – which is a way good thing, competition leads to much better products, the Art 18-35/1.8 is also outstanding in optical quality terms. I expect no less from Sigma with their 24/1.4 when it’ll be released this fall, and the 85/1.4 which is rumored for 2015 must be very good then, too. Go Sigma, go!...

With an hour long portrait session photos with the sunset over and over can sometimes get a little repetitive. This article will show you how to create diverse images out of a beach sunset session, and also explain how to use off-camera flash to expose for the background and capture the true colors that you see. To plan this right, you first need to know exactly what time the sun...

Once you’re comfortable with the basics, here are five advanced tips for creating your own unique light trail photography. 1. Go big or go home You don’t want an image with tiny light trails. You want big, Texas-sized, light trails streaking across the photo. As with any subject, if you want the subject to appear large, get close to it. Exaggerate the effect by using a wide-angle lens. Another way to...

The 5.5-inch True HD-IPS+ screen comes with a whopping 2560 x 1440 pixels (QHD) resolution which, at 534 ppi, makes it one of the pixel-densest current displays. While the screen is great for viewing high-resolution images there are also improvements in the image capture department. With a 13MP CMOS-sensor, OIS and  fast F2.0 lens the G2’s basic camera...

read moreRegarding corner softness: I own a Canon SX230HS. I’ve installed CHDK on it. I get truly raw images, without any funny business from the manufacturer. I think most people would be shocked at how much manipulation of these photos is done in this class of camera, especially stretching pixels, before you see a “raw” image. A lens with this much zoom produces an image circle that is (way!) too small at wide angle. Pre-manipulation, this camera probably produces images that have no data whatsoever in the corners (black) at wide...

Digital needs (to continue) and progress in the few areas where film out-does it.
