“Photography is not rocket science. No need for dogmatic rules about which lens to use in what situation.” If you are trying to reduce facial distortion then there is no question that it is infallibly true that there is less at a longer distances. and the effect is significant from 85 to 135mm equiv. That’s a dogma for sure. If we are trying to ascribe rules of thumb of what appropriate focal lengths are for different situations (which, after all , is exactly why people call 85mm the classic portrait lens), then the rule of...

I think Samsung sales for NX cameras are not going well. After all, imho, the NX30 is mainly a NX300 + EVF in a bulky, plasticky, dslr like body. And is also quite expensive. DXO just tested it and, as I immediately stated when NX30 was announced, the performance is exactly the same as the over 1 year older NX300. Source Article from...

Those other Russian photos and French photos from some time ago that were posted here were unarguably full of joy and and fun and yet people complained, not about the joy, but then the image quality and technique! They called it staged and fake and proclaimed “who is interested in this person’s life? Posting artsy photos of your kids online, what a creep!”. Source Article from...

Samsung launches Galaxy K Zoom with 10x optical zoom

Smartphone imaging components have improved a lot in recent years but the lack of an optical zoom is still a major disadvantage compared to traditional compact cameras. Samsung tried to bridge the gap with last year’s Galaxy S4 Zoom but the device ended up being bulkier than its smartphone cousin, the Galaxy S4, without offering the same high-end specification. It also didn’t convince us in our smartphone shootout either.   Now Samsung is aiming to make its hybrid model more attractive to consumers and has launched the...

9 Top Tips for Shooting Waterfalls, Creeks and Streams

A Post By: Gavin Hardcastle Waterfalls, creeks and streams are something of a photographic specialty for me. Aside from the fact that there are thousands of them at my Vancouver Island Headquarters, they’re also really easy to photograph and often result in magical images that stand the test of time. Whether it’s a moss speckled trickle or a colossal roaring deluge, moving water seems to be irresistible to photographers and when it’s done well, can be utterly gorgeous. Let me share with you my top tips on how to shoot waterfalls, creeks...

Same cat at older age posing for the camera, in perfect light and contrast and composition, but boring pose gets a 3.8 score. It seems that the app does not compute : Appealing contrast, color, and composition . The most important factor ‘story’ is anyhow something we have to make up ourselves (and argue about it amongst each other) Source Article from...

Sony patent hints at RX compact with even greater pocket power

@DaveE1 As for your information Sony stock is rated JUNK at Wallstreet. Their Imaging division is loosing hundreds of millions of dollars every year, for years already. The innovation does NOT come from Sony imaging, but from their components division. Thats a very diffrent Sony then Sony Imaging. Sony Components is an OEM manufacturer delivering those patents to all companies that want to use their technology. They sell it out and receive money for letting them use their technology. Hence the reason why so many camera manufacturers are using...
