Tips for Boosting Your Confidence Doing People Photography

A Post By: Dan Waters We all know most people aren’t comfortable being photographed. What’s less well documented is many photographers actually feel nervous about photographing people. It’s understandable when you think about it. Since we know that the people we’re photographing don’t want to be photographed, we feel we’re invading their space. We also feel just as ‘on show’ as the subject. We have to perform, be charming, build rapport, make people smile, effortlessly change the settings on our camera and ultimately show them...

Up close: The beauty of butterfly wings

Posted by on 3rd, Apr, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Little-known fact: the irridescent colours of butterfly wings are produced not by pigments, but by nanometric structures on the scales’ surface that reflect different colours of light, much like the microscopic pits on a CD. God, I love nature. Source Article from http://www.dpreview.com/news/2014/04/03/up-close-the-beauty-of-butterfly-wings

Tiny lens turns your smartphone camera into a microscope

There is a large number of third party lens attachments for smartphones available. You can choose from fisheye, wide-angle, macro or tele lenses, or even attach an entire camera module. The Micro Phone Lens Kickstarter project is different though. It’s a minuscule lens attachment made from a scratch-proof polymer that turns your smartphone or tablet into a microscope with a 150x magnification factor.  The lens is adhesive, you simply stick it on and pull it off after use. The system works best when using a microscope slide. You...

Bugeye Lens Underwater Photography

By Amir Stern The Inon “Bugeye” lens, officially called the Inon Underwater Micro Semi-Fisheye Relay Lens UFL-MR130 EFS60, is one of the most unique lenses out there—giving neither a normal wide-angle or a purely macro perspective. Instead, it’s a hybrid: a dedicated “fisheye macro lens.” This is the first lens of its kind with the optics specifically designed only for underwater photography. However, as a first-generation lens, there is still much that can be improved in terms of lens quality in...

Solving the Problem of Duplicate Photos

A Post By: Helen Bradley I usually write about tips for Photoshop and Lightroom, but today I’m going to cover more of a workflow solution, solving the problem of duplicate photos on your computer or hard drives. If you’re like me, from time to time you’ve encountered the problem of duplicate photos. You might have imported a set of photos twice, accidentally duplicated a folder of photos, or you might have totally lost control of your photo collection to the extent that you now have multiple copies of your images and you don’t know...

10 Ways Photography Makes You a Better Parent

A Post By: Beryl Young When I began my journey down the wonderful path of becoming a photographer, I never realized how this camera of mine would totally transform my world. I picked up a camera before becoming a mom, not because of burning passion, but because I knew how important it was to document our life. I felt like taking pictures was an essential part of remembering all of the details of growing our family. What I’ve realized over the years though, is that photography isn’t simply about the technical details of achieving the...

Apple patents bayonet mount for mobile devices

Apple patents bayonet mount for mobile devices

The guys at Apple Insider have spotted another camera-related Apple patent at the US Patent Office. A few months ago Apple patented a magnetic lens mount. This time the iPhone maker from Cupertino is looking at interchangeable lenses for mobile devices that will attach via a bayonet mount, just like on a DSLR or mirrorless system camera. Most patents never turn into a product but if Apple decides to bring the bayonet mount to market you might be able to attach fish-eye, wide-angle, macro or tele lenses to future generation of iPhones,...

Sony RX10 added to enthusiast compact buying guide

To help lazy readers: By R Butler:The GR, X100S, Coolpix A, Sigma DPMs and possibly the Canon G1X would fall into a more specialist class, but we’re probably not going to have a chance to cover those, this time ’round. By Andy Westlake:We’ve reviewed most of those cameras in detail. The only ones missing are the Sigma DP Merrills (which we struggle to recommend for most users, as they’re highly reliant on Sigma Photo Pro for Raw conversion, which can produce great output but is painfully slow and clunky), and the Leica...

Mockups emerge of new Olympus OM-D ‘OM-G’

Posted by on 2nd, Apr, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

While this is published April 1st and obviously an April joke I think it has some interesting ideas. 6-axis IBIS with the sensor moving back and forth? Remember the Contax AX: it had a movable film plane to get AF, and it worked quite well. In theory at least it would be possible to get AF a similar way with a moving sensor. Imagine AF with all those legacy lenses of OM, FD and other mounts existing out there. Anyway, I actually own an OM-G, bought in the US 30 years ago, hiding in a cupboard. It exists. It’s a very basic entry level...
