[embedded content] As you can see at the end of the drop test video, the filter came away from the ten-story fall with little more than a scratch on the surface of the lens. Kolari Vision attributes this durability to the...

TTartisan releases $770 90mm F1.25 manual prime for Leica M-mount camera systems

Chinese optics manufacturer TTartisan has announced its latest lens, the 90mm F1.25 for Leica M-mount camera systems. New York Times unveils prototype system aimed at inspiring confidence in photojournalism

Misinformation is a big issue online, especially with how quickly false stories are shared. The New York Times R&D team has worked with the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) on a prototype system ‘exploring tools to give readers transparency into the source and veracity of news visuals.’ If a picture is worth a thousand words, the picture must be verifiably truthful to its viewers. As CAI points out, it used to be a given that a ‘photograph never lies.’ However, that hasn’t been true for a long time....

To make the most of the Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z7 II’s high-resolution 45.7-megapixel sensors, it’s best to use suitable lenses. Otherwise, you might as well save some money and get a Z6 / Z6 II instead. I’ll go through my top recommendations for both Z and F-mount lenses below. Keep in mind that my only criterion while rating these lenses was whether the sharpness of the lens could make the most of the Nikon Z7 and Z7 II’s 45-megapixel resolution. Although I’ll mention a few other considerations throughout this article, such as lens...

Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated?

Lenses like Nikon’s Z 50mm F1.2 S are bigger, heavier, more costly and more complex than older F1.2 designs. But why? First, some optical history Back in the days when men were iron and ships were wood, there were some things you could rely on. One of those things was your wide-aperture prime lens was a relatively simple double-guass design. Pre-1900, lens designers had already created five of the six lens types that are the basis of what we use today. (The retrofocus lens didn’t come around until the 1920s, and zoom lenses, for...
