Pentax announces K-1 II J Limited 01 DSLR in four colors for the Japanese market

Pentax has launched a quartet of recolored versions of its K-1 Mark II DSLR, which was first released in 2018 and is currently the company’s flagship K Series camera. FiLMiC patents image remapping technology promising nearly 5x faster performance

FiLMiC has patented a new high-efficiency image remapping technology, Cubiform. The newly-patented Cubiform is ‘an approach to applying a remap to each pixel in an image.’ Cubiform generates color look-up tables (C-LUTs) using a dynamic set of parameters, which can then be modified by users in real-time. By using C-LUTs rather than directly modifying images, a stream of C-LUTs can be applied to an image, or series of images, without placing high demand upon the CPU or GPU. FiLMiC says that by eschewing per-pixel processing for...

Image courtesy of Nesster Slide film, otherwise known as positive, reversal or transparency film (and occasionally as ‘E-6’ for its development process), was the choice of ‘pro’ shooters back in the pre-digital film photography days. What’s the difference between slide and print film? Simply, print film produces a negative image, while slide film produces a positive image. Individual frames of developed slide...

So, as we tend to the final bits of our long-awaited Nikon Z7 II review, come with us for a little tour of North Seattle under a blanket of fresh powder. What you need to know about new Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN

Billed by Sigma as ‘a more compact alternative to the existing 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art’, the new 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN is indeed considerably smaller and 365 g (almost a pound) lighter than it’s ‘Art’ series counterpart. Despite the considerable size and weight (and cost) saving compared to the 24-70mm ‘Art’, Sigma claims that the design of its newest zoom is based on that of the higher-end lens, and should deliver excellent results across its zoom and aperture range. Our new reference camera: Phase One XF IQ4 150MP added to studio test scene

Digital formats have often ended up mimicking the dimensions of film formats, simply because the lenses for those formats already existed. But the higher performance and more steeply rising cost of fabricating ever larger expanses of silicon mean that the image quality gains from slavishly matching film formats becomes uneconomic beyond a certain point. In short, the possible image-quality gain of a ‘6×9’ digital sensor simply isn’t worth the fabulous cost it would entail. But this brings us to the sensor in the Phase...
