Video: A behind the scenes look at the Ilford film factory in England

Ilford Photo got its start way back in 1879 when Alfred Hugh Harman began making gelatin dry plates in his house in Ilford, United Kingdom. Since then, the Ilford name has had an established, respected presence in the photography industry. The company has gone through different ownership over the past 142 years, but Ilford film is still made in the United Kingdom. In a new video tour, Exploredinary takes us behind the scenes at the Ilford film factory in Mobberley, England. Viewers are treated not only to a behind-the-scenes look at how one...

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 870 is essentially a 865+ with minor speed, graphics improvements

Qualcomm has introduced its new Snapdragon 870 5G mobile platform, a system-on-a-chip (SoC) that’s essentially a refreshed version of its Snapdragon 865+ chipset. This new SoC is made for manufacturers who want to release high-end phones this year without using the more expensive Snapdragon 888 SoC, which was revealed last week. The biggest change with the Snapdragon 870 5G over the 865 models is its faster speed at 3.2GHz versus the 865’s 2.84GHz and the 865 Plus’s 3.1GHz. The new model packs the company’s Kyro 585...

Adobe Camera Raw vs. Nikon ViewNX-i and Capture NX-D: Which should you be using?

Introduction Recently, I kicked off a new series of articles comparing the software provided by camera manufacturers with one of their most popular third-party alternatives, pitting Canon Digital Photo Professional head-to-head against Adobe Camera Raw. Now, I’m back with the second in the series, in which we’ll take a look at how Adobe’s raw processing rivals that offered for free with Nikon’s cameras. Nikon ViewNX-i version 1.4.3’s user interface. There’s a bit more to discuss this time around, as Nikon...

Reply to multi purpose filter

derekdgl: you were lucky. A filter protects a front element from finger prints and getting scratched in normal use cases. However, when you run into a blunt object or drop the lens, the filter shatters and can cause much more damage to the front element than when there’s no filter attached. I’ve heard some terrible stories about this. I would never take that...

Fujifilm X-T4 vs X-S10

The Fujifilm X-T4 sits at the top of the company’s X series, and is probably our favorite APS-C camera right now. We found its in-body stabilization, improved AF tracking and larger battery give significant advantages over the already very good X-T3, especially if you shoot video. But the company’s mid-range X-S10 brings in-body stabilization to a much more accessible price point and shares a lot of the X-T4’s features and capabilities. Does the more affordable camera provide everything you need or is it worth the extra...
