Rokinon launches Cine 16mm T2.2 lens for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds

Rokinon has made available a video version of the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 prime. The 16mm T2.2 Cine lens is available for pre-order in Nikon F, Canon EF, Micro Four Thirds, Sony A, and Sony E mounts. Like other video primes, it offers focus and aperture racks for use with cinema rigs, stepless aperture control, and calibration in T-stops rather than F-stops. B&H is offering each at $529 for pre-order.

Rokinon’s website lists compatible mounts for Pentax, Samsung NX and Fujifilm X though they aren’t yet available for pre-order, and lists the lens at an MSRP of $499. The sample video below is from Rokinon’s site, shot with the 16mm T2.2 and a Canon EOS 60D.

The biggest issue I see with this is the fact that the guy is washing his car while it’s dry (@1:03). C’mon, maaaan, rinse the damn thing first!!!

I personally would see more issue in washing an absolutely clean car… howver, for the price this lens is useful.

Well, they should hire a sexy model to wash that car.

And fix that gaddem faucet!

Is that the same optical design for DSLRs and mirrorless? Bit of a waste releasing a retrofocal lens with all that space behind the rear element on a short mirrorless mount, but being a pro video lens I guess people aren’t buying it for the size.

I’m just waiting for those idiotic comments from silly people who’ll come up and tell us this lens sucks because it’s a 24mm-f/3.3 or a 32mm-f/4.4. Other than that I couldn’t care less about this lens. It is just waiting for the slightest pretext to merrily disintegrate itself, like all Rokinon/Samyang/Opteka/Whatever lenses.

I would much rather pay seven times more for a Canon or Zeiss cine lens.

Not a bad price at all actually. Let’s see if they’re solid. Interesting though.
