It is all about varying tradeoffs in Zoom, Price, Image quality, size, and various features.
RX100 is great not because of best image quality (RX1 or at least Ricoh BR would win) in a compact, but because it does so at a fairly reasonable price, with good supporting features like video quality, some zoom, good lens, all in a very compact body.
Some might prefer that Stylus 1 or whatever with its 300mm zoom range @2.8 aperture, despite its weaker overall image quality and less portability.

Started out doing photography at the age of 6 using an uncle's old 1940 kodak brownie box camera. At 15 years of age, I decided to buy my very own 1975 Praktica SLR camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D850. I do unpaid TFP and commercial paid work.
