Accessory review: Vanguard Heralder 51T Rolling Backpack

Posted by on 2nd, Jun, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Okay, let’s see-Wastes vertical storage space with 4 spinny wheels.Wastes interior cargo space with handle rails tat go in the middle of the case.Weighs a lot.Still doesn’t even really qualify as carry on.Costs a lot. THere’s your mission, DPreview… find a case that actually DOESN’T do these things, but is still a good gear case. IE, find a case where – the wheels take up minimal space in the overall “carry on” space requirements. – the handle is either set to the edges of the case so it...

What Life Lessons Can Teach You About Photography

A Post By: Lynsey Mattingly Image of my new crazy family by Mia McCloy A few months ago I got married. (Confetti! Streamers! Cake if you have it!) In doing this, I took on a gorgeous husband and three darling stepdaughters. Add my two adorable sons to the mix and you end up with a total of seven people sharing a couple of bathrooms, a kitchen, and the lion’s share of my patience. All of a sudden things like meal planning and buying in bulk have gone from concepts I’ve heard about to the only thing keeping me out of an inpatient treatment...

Tips for Shooting and Processing Better Black and White Photographs

A Post By: Tim Gilbreath Photography, as you know, is fundamentally the capturing of light; you are not taking pictures of objects as much as you are recording the light that is bouncing off of them. In the early days of photography, the only medium available to capture this light was monochromatic film, commonly known as black and white. In the 1930s, the invention of Kodachrome, the first successfully mass-produced color film, ushered in an age of color to the art form. Instead of fading away, however, black and white photography remained...

Good to see people willing to do things the hard way. Wet plate was the only way in the olde days and an “extreme” photographic collection of wet plates from then is the Holtermann Collection held in Sydney, Australia, http://blog.sl.nsw.gov.au/holtermann/ for info and links. Amazing things done back then, his largest wet plates measured an amazing 1,36 x 0,95 metres, yes, metres. That’s about 53 x 37 inches. The detail in those old Holtermann plates is superb, basically grainless and limited only by the lenses of the day....

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 M3 : real world sample images

I guess I am shocked at how ordinary these examples look, I was prepared to be blown away and feel under pressure to buy a new camera. Everyone is frothing at the mouth at how good it is in the dark, but I shoot in the dark about 1% of the time, of course some people may shoot in the dark 99% so this will be a good camera for them. A good picture is more than just having low noise, and yet that seems to be the emphasis in these comments. it needs consistant and accurate WB, some of these shots look way off, too much cyan. For me, this camera...

iStick allows for easy image transfer from iPhone to computer

While most Android and Windows Phone devices act like external drives when connected to a computer with a USB-cable, transferring files to and from an iOS device is a little more tricky. This is where the iStick comes in. iStick is a USB-drive with an integrated Apple Lightning connector which makes it compatible with more recent iPhone, iPad and iPod generations.  On a Mac or PC it just works like any USB-stick and you can copy and move data to and from the iStick via drag-and drop or copy-and-paste. On the iPhone or other iOS...
